My Role: UX/UI Designer | Volunteer

Goal:  Redesign of MY-ICD’s Youth Committee website to align with their specific needs, focusing on enhancing user experience and improving engagement & communication.

MY-ICD ( Muslim Youth of Islamic Center of Detroit) is a youth organization dedicated to personal and professional development, as well as community service. Our mission is to empower young people to drive positive change through spiritual, recreational, developmental, and impactful service activities.

ABOUT

The current website design for MY-ICD is outdated, lacks essential features, & not organized effectively.

PROBLEM

The challenge involved transforming an outdated and disorganized non-profit website for MY-ICD into a modern, user-friendly platform. The original need for simplicity clashed with the desire for new features like Eventbrite and expanded social media links. Balancing these requirements while ensuring easy navigation on a one-page layout presented a UX/UI challenge. The solution required a strategic redesign, marrying simplicity with enhanced features, resulting in a more cohesive and engaging user experience for MY-ICD's community.

Although the website was deleted, I have a clear understanding of the user flow based on its previous structure.

PAIN POINTS

Meeting their needs.

  1. Lack of Organization: The current website is poorly organized, making it difficult for users to find relevant information efficiently.

Desire for New Features: Requests for features like Eventbrite integration and additional social media platforms indicate a need to meet evolving user expectations.

Navigation: Users prefer a one-page website for simplicity, highlighting the importance of easy navigation in the redesign.

Event Registration Integration: Connecting events to a registration form requires an intuitive UI design to boost community engagement.

Social Media Integration: Incorporating Instagram, Facebook, and a donation section demands a cohesive UI design that avoids clutter.

UI Redesign for Modern Aesthetics: The need for a more user-friendly one-page website and new features calls for a modern UI redesign focused on usability.

The main concern among community members is the need for easy access to essential information, including upcoming events, contact details, and donation options on the website.

USER RESEARCH

In summary, community members stress the need for the MY-ICD website to be user-friendly and informative. They want to easily find essential information like upcoming events, contact information, donation opportunities, and details about the organization's activities. By ensuring this information is transparent and easily accessible, the website can effectively engage users and foster a stronger connection with the community.
